Tung Fang Design University-Department of Motion Picture
The school was established in October 1965 (ROC 54) by the approval of the Ministry of Education according to Executive Order (54) Taigao Zi No.15380. In 1966 (ROC 55), the Registration of Legal Entities was obtained, and the school was established according to the Executive Order (55) Taigao Zi No.632 by the Ministry of Education. The school was named "Private Tung Fang Junior College of Industry and Arts." The school officially started the spring semester course enrollment on March 1, 1966. Mr. Cai Tian-lai was the 1st President, and the founder Dr. Xu Guo-xiong was the 1st principal.
At the beginning, the school took the professional and technical orientation to develop the school's characteristics by setting up four subjects, namely, "Food Manufacturing division," "Arts and Crafts," "Industrial Design" and "Industrial Management" to cultivate the professional and technical personnel needed by the community. On July 28, 1999, the school was taken over by the Ministry of Education according to the law regulations for 2 years. Prof. Xu Sheng-xiong was the acting principal. In August 2001, the 11th Meeting of the Board of Directors elected Prof. Qiu Ming-yuan as the 2nd Principal, who actively promoted administrative revolution and the renovation of the school building. And, the school was successfully upgraded to "Tung Fang Institute of Technology" in August 2002. According to the school's long-term development of "designing education" as the characteristic and signature performance, the school was legally allowed to be renamed as the Tung Fang Design Institute" on August 1, 2010.
In August 2011, the 14th meeting of the Board of Directors elected Prof. Wu Shu-ming as the 3rd Principal to continue developing the school's characteristic of education, "Creativity and Design," to cultivate talents with professional expertise in technology and art for the society of the country. The school teachers and students worked together to make the school Taiwan's only one "Design University." On August 1, 2017, the Ministry of Education has approved the school renamed to "Tung Fang Design University."

4. Take "expanding the vision" as the broad development of lifelong learning to assist in planning the courses of the department.

◎ In line with the policy of national development, focus the film performance industry. Besides the dedication to professional teaching and studies, the resources of each school and department should be integrated to assist the teachers in teaching.
◎ Design and plan professional performance and cross-field practical courses to effectively integrate the resources of image, performance, art, academic, industry, etc. Activate the Humanities and Arts in south Taiwan as well as the film and TV performance platform in south Taiwan to make the school become the cradle that cultivates cultural and artistic workers.
