The elderly Mr. Huang, who is almost one hundred years old, inherited his father’s business at a young age and did a fine job of operating “Ming’an Hostel.” After several years of hard work, Mr. Huang decided to rebuild the hostel into a famous and prestigious hotel that was conveniently situated at a prime location next to the Kaohsiung Train Station. The newly rebuilt hotel mainly hosted foreign tourists while he started developing towards aquaculture and fishery, becoming the inventor of deep-water aquaculture in Taiwan. As he went through the highs and lows of aquaculture, he soon became too old to stay involved in the business and has always been seeking out that elusive happiness deep within all of us.

In 1993, he discovered a village that was untouched by the outer world during a trip to Baolai with his friends. Not only was it surrounded by mountains, trees and waters, the village also had the famed hot springs. The natural, simple and pure Baolai had the happy lifestyle that he was looking for. Therefore, he decided to spend the rest of his life here.
He hoped that more people could take in and enjoy all of this goodness, so he and his friends poured their funding together and opened a hot springs hotel named “Chia Bao” on Baolai’s Zhongzheng Road (Currently Fun Chen Resort Hotel). In 1997, the shareholders decided not to continue with business operations and changed it to a rental management format. The elderly Mr. Huang decided to open build his own Hot Springs Hotel on Xinbao Road, which was five minutes away by car from Baolai Avenue. Even though Mr. Huang has retired, the hotel is still operated by his son as he hopes to pass on his love and passion for this land, and continue welcoming more people to visit Baolai.

For those that don’t know, the name of Chia Bao doesn’t really match with the poetic image of hot springs. However, this name comes from Mr. Huang’s business philosophy, “Guests (Chia bing) gather like clouds, treasured (Bao) families come every day.” Mr. Huang’s persistence certainly puts a genuine smile on peoples’ faces.
