Gangshan Cultural Center

The Gangshan Cultural Center includes three main buildings, a library, a performing hall, and the Museum of Shadow Puppet. The library building is facilitated with an auditorium and an exhibition room. The Kaohsiung City Library Gangshan Cultural Center Branch holds up to 200,000 books in various kinds of categories and provides e-book lending service. Also, it's has Kaohsiung's first exclusive area holding multi-cultural books to expand the library service.
The renovation of the performance hall includes stage, lighting, sound equipment, and audience seats. After county-city consolidation, the functions of the hall have been strengthened by striving for more subsidies on bandshells for sound quality, hanger, etc. to make it a multi-functional performance hall suitable for music, dance, and drama performances.
Taiwan's only one museum that houses traditional shadow puppets, the "Kaohsiung City Museum of Shadow Puppet", is located inside the cultural center. It collects precious artifacts and literature of Taiwan's only 4 existing theater groups of traditional shadow puppet in Kaohsiung City. It plays an important role in carrying forward and fostering the heritage of the shadow puppet. In 2012, the Museum of Shadow Puppet has reopened. It displays the performance of several years of digitalization; all the content in display and the method of experience activity have been re-designed and presented by using modern digital technological equipment. The promotional activities are to carry forward the heritage and attract people to visit the museum for understanding the traditional culture of Xiqu (traditional Chinese opera). And it's hoped to give new life to the development of traditional Chinese opera in Taiwan.
Gangshan Cultural Center has comprehensively integrated the resources of performance and exhibition; through excellent performance and exhibition venues that have multi-functions, different requirements of performance and exhibition can be satisfied and make the cultural center become the art center of the northern Kaohsiung area. Starting from the northernmost Gangshan Cultural Center (Nangangshan Station), Kaohsiung MRT Red and Orange Line have formed the "South Art Gallery" to achieve the complex development of tourism, arts, culture, industry, and quality of life.
