The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is the main operating entity of the Neiweipi Cultural Park, which is located in the northern Kaohsiung. The building takes up 41 ha. The park includes the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Arts Education Center, Sculpture Park, an artificial lake, an outdoor music venue, a firefly restoration area, and a wetland swamp. The National Taiwan Arts Education Center will be relocated from Nanhai Road in Taipei to Kaohsiung. It is the most artistic eco-park in Kaohsiung and the most special, comprehensive recreational park in Taiwan, integrating arts, culture, creativity, ecology and education.
The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is the only large public, comprehensive art museum in southern Taiwan. It was opened in June 1994, the latest one out of the three metro museums in Taiwan. It is responsible for the aesthetic social education of people in southern Taiwan and it integrates important contemporary ideas and spirit, including paying attention to the local history, blending the community consciousness and highlighting the environmental landscape. Since the opening of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in 1994, the museum always sees itself as a multi-functional, comprehensive art museum. When it is planning for an exhibition, it introduces diverse arts to satisfy the artistic needs of people in southern Taiwan. By integrating the art park, the museum offers a diverse a life park with art, cultural, recreational and ecological features to people in Kaohsiung.
