景點介紹
The Lotus Lake is one of the most traditional scenic spots in Kaohsiung City, and was known as one of "Eight Sights of Fongshan" during the Qing Dynasty. As it is filled with lotus plants and flowers, it is often praised for having “lotus-scented waters.” The Pond has pavilions, giant statues and the "old city" surrounded by the city walls while historical sites such, ancient houses, and villages can also be seen around the Pond. Visitors can also visit the old streets and traditional markets to taste the rich and varied cuisine of Zuoying. The current Lotus Pond is clean and refreshing as the trail along the perimeter of the Pond is suitable for walks, cycling, or visitors can comfortably enjoy the view of the Pond.
The most famous attraction of the Lotus Pond is the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda. The Dragon and Tiger Pagoda is located in the Lotus Pond Scenic Area. Built in 1976, the Pagoda is seven stories high; it has a dragon as its entrance and a tiger as its exit, and uses the bodies of those animals to form pathways. The inner walls Jiaozhi ware works created by famous artists based on persuasive stories, while the reflections of the Pagoda body and Nine-turn Bridge can be seen in the Pond. There are rules for visiting the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda as visitors must enter through the Dragon entrance, and exit out of the Tiger exit. In doing so, visitors can attract good fortune and avoid disaster. After reaching the top of the Pagoda, visitors can fully enjoy a 360-degree view of the Lotus Pond.
In addition, there is also the Wuli Pavilion, which is a ceremonial venue for welcoming and bidding farewell to divine entities. As it is 142 meters from the watchtower on the shore, the Pavilion is situated in the middle of the pond as there is a Nine-turn Bridge that connects to the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. Taking the shape of an octagon, the eaves and ridges along with the golden roof compliment the natural scenery to add another beautiful view to the Lotus Pond Scenic Area.
